Got some reasonable responses that the gradient on the button was too unnatural, went for this instead.

Have you considered left aligning the plus? It would look a little cleaner and more obviously related to making a new task, and you'd have room for "new todo" text too IMHO

@Jordan, Thought about it, but this will eventually translate into a touch app and the touch area there on the bottom left might be a bit small for a "target", so I made the whole bottom section tap-able.
