Lovely use of colors. Nicely designed. Beautifully executed.
The only thing that bothers me is the positioning of "x".
Why left side? I think it is more natural to go on the right side.
And the previous/next links on the left above the album picture palceholder and info.
Other than that deep red perhaps being a little too subdued for such an important CTA, this is unbelievably gorgeous work Matthew. The type and modal window elements are so crisp, and whats in the background looks awesome.
I wanted to give it 5 stars instead of just a like.
I don't have anything against it.
Just talking about some general UI practices.
Not everyone is using MacOS, I think that worldwide Apple has around 30-35% of market share and this includes all of their products. Now I assume 15-20% are MacOS users. This is nothing compared to 80% WinOS users. And there we have a close on the right.
Now there is also big sites, they always locate sign up/sign in/sign out buttons on the right. Studies show that the user firstly notices top right corner, the vision is programmed like that.
Look at TV screens and TV stations logos, where are they located.
Except Mathew wants the user to stick to that window as much as possible but I think it would be better to show them how to close it after they complete their task.
I think its a good solution, but hey I might be also wrong.

@Edi For me the “x” needs to be on the left side. But maybe this is because I’m a Mac user?

Thanks guys :)
Personally, I don't mind which side the "x" is located when it comes to lightboxes ;)
