Part of a header nav for a site concept; the search field floats atop the background when not active (the bluish grey frame around it only appears when there are results to display, as does the dropdown). Comments appreciated.
Michael, I disagree. The perspective is entirely reasonable (and nice). The only thing that might be off is the shadow of the box, since if its floating as the perspective conveys then there would be no drop shadow around the top half of the menu (since its not resting on the floor).
I really like how the wood disappears into the distance with the nav block floating in-front of you.
Yeah, you're right about the drop shadow, Wills, I probably took too many liberties with it to make the box look softer. I'll have to fix that, the shadow does make the perspective feel a little odd. Really appreciate the feedback.
To add another reason why the perspective is wrong, you seem to have a line above that you are suggesting is cut into the wood, which it couldn't possibly be because this element isn't even touching the background
That's a good point, Michael. I like to think of that separator line as a case of prioritizing clarity rather than accurately imitating physical objects or features, but of course I'm open to suggestions on how to strike a better balance.

The UI is nice but it doesn't work with the perspective on that background pattern. The pattern is coming towards the eye where as the UI is flat.
