A personal project in the works. Still a lot of work to go but got a pretty good idea for the logo. New blog is coming soon, but in the meantime you can follow us on Twitter here.
You know, when you told me this idea, I had no idea what the title would look like, or what it could possibly be, but I LOVE IT. :D
It looks really nice, very sophisticated. It also shows intelligence so you've got the idea and feel across for your subject. :-)
My only query is the bottom of the mortarboard, could it do with half of it darker, as a shade, instead of it being just flat? And obviously, the Apple looks a bit blurry but is that the feel you wanted anyway?
Love it. Suggestions: Making the button on the top of the hat a little more 3D, maybe try it without the lines inside of the boxy stroke near the bottom, tassel on the cap, maybe to the right to signify that the person has not yet graduated. Just my thoughts, Good stuff Janna.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the background itself, but I'm also not sure of it's context. So maybe it will look good in whatever it's sitting in. Also it appears that one of the green leaves on the left side goes above the cap, while on the right it goes under it.
Looks great Janna. Since I just saw your Twitter post about feedback, here we go. The diagonal pattern seems skewed in the lower right corner (not sure if that's relevant to the final design). There seems to be something about the hat and civic crown that maybe needs a little tweak. How about reducing the height of the hat or having the civic crown fold out further and follow the line of the crest? Then also move your inside line up to accommodate the leaves.
Really looking forward to this Janna. As for feedback...Overall, really dig the direction it's going! On the bottom portion, the leaves of the civica seem to overlap the cap slightly more on the left side than the right, and the curving border-like line on the left seems to come in closer to the civica on the left than the line does on the right. However this may be due to variation in the leafs (not sure if intended to be symmetric or not). As for the top apple, I agree with the notion that it looks a tad bit washed out. Perhaps a tassel as mentioned above, or a scroll (tied up with a ribbon, or unraveled) to retain the 'scholarly' implication?
The detail is great but I kind of feel like there are too many competing ideas for one logo? The academic shield, mortarboard hat, apple, stars, wreath – could you cut back on the icons and just go with one or two of the strongest?
Looking forward to seeing the results of this, sounds like a great idea!

I know what this is :-) Looking good as usual. My only gripe is the apple is looking kinda fuzzy and washed out.

Though I agree re: the apple's fuzziness and the wreath touching the cap.

Any suggestions for something other than an apple? Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll fix the wreath and the cap. Do you think I should add a tassel?

Try it with a tassel, that could be interesting.

I think the dot on the top looks a bit like a hole... maybe try to make that baby pop "up" a bit more? Loving the feel of this.

Janna, the only issue I have is underneath the cap, the space between it and the wreath.. but it looks GREAT!
