I love the shield. I might have to gripe about the texture used *behind* the shield though... I don't know, I just don't think it really fits in with the metallic texture of the shield itself.
That being said, the shield is still fucking brilliant. Great work!

John, I didn't just want to do a solid color, so I added a leather texture. It's not for the final of course, but there's something not right about the shield. It's weird. It just doesn't seem right. I don't know why.

Not sure if I like the screws in the ends of the stars though…
Also, the texture in the star & the blue circle the star is on is like seamless even though they're two different pieces, maybe it'd look better if the texture didn't match like it currently does…

Looking at the official movie site photos, I'd have to say that your shield is a bit too shiny. Just a bit. Other than that, I'd say it looks good - first version is better that the second.
