Lens: Case Study

Stories matter. The stories we read influence the stories we tell ourselves, and the stories we tell ourselves enable transformative change. Lens is a publication that covers the cultural trends driving creators, the business of creativity, and the art of the craft. Lens partnered with Rogue knowing that they had a unique mission & perspective but needed help synthesizing their values and expressing them in a visual way to get readers and creators excited to use and join their community.

The brand needed to accomplish two core things. Embody the mission of the company, “great work is made in groups.” Emphasizing creative collaboration within the design language as a means of showcasing the Lens team's creative process, Collab. Publish. Repeat. Secondly, with an audience full of writers, artists, YouTubers, tik-tokers, and entrepreneurs, it was essential for the brand to connect with people working in the digital creative economy and give them a community to thrive within. 

To achieve this Rogue crafted a bespoke brand that evoked a sense of digital nostalgia. Paying homage to an early internet where collaboration and creation were celebrated. Fusing the digital with notes of classic editorial details to create something purely Lens, a harmonious blending of digital media and classic publication. This style was carried across the entirety of the design language from physical - swag and promotional materials to digital - website, social media, emails, icons, and even the team's avatar illustrations

Grid Structure and shapes

We created a grid structure for images that could adapt and meld around to text seamlessly. This opened our design system up to infinite ways to mask images while creating shapes that looked pixelated; simultaneously creating spaces to add needed typography and other informational elements.
