Agreed with Brian, you usually ace light logic but this is definitely falling a tad short. The shadow of the switch would indicate that the shadow of the mesh would be falling on those speakers, and there should be a slight gradation on the steel itself. But I'm using a crappy monitor right now so you might have that gradation present and I'm just not picking it up.
@Gorm Yeah I tried that, it just doesn't look right, The inner cast shadows destroy even more speaker detail, and the circular shadow doubled with the circular openings makes your eyes blow up when you look at it. Still needs more work buts it avoiding it looking overworked.
I don't think the speaker grille should cast a shadow. With material that thin, the diffusion that takes place would make the shadow so faint. Unless of course the speaker cones are like 1cm below the mesh ;)
Have you considered adding a trim around the edge of the grill perforations rather than just terminating them in the "back and forth" zip zag pattern? That would certainly add some depth to the whole piece.
Agree with Brian - shadows from grills and nets tend to make the objects the shadows are cast on feel really close. I see the flatness issue - what about having a darker, very diffuse shadow on the bottom of the speakers, the way you've got at the top?
I actually really like the way the perforations just end - the design feels really sharp and clean, and I think a trim could hurt that.
This, and the other stuff you've done, is seriously awesome work. I've never understood why Microsoft's interface design is always so mediocre - there are some great UI people out there.
i also think that its not necessary showing the speakers somehow... maybe darken them more so you just can imagine that there is somthing but at least youll see the net =)
im curious to see the next draft =)

This is another element that will be included with my up coming GUi, a set of speakers set behind machined mesh.
I found it hard to get the detail of the speaker to show through, but I think its getting there. Would love to know what you think.

Looking great! I think it does look a bit "flat" though... maybe exaggerate the lighting with some leaked light from other surrounding LEDs and such.

Nice.. I think you need to add a shadow from the net on the speakers to get a better 3D-effect..

It looks good but I think the net should be darker than that.
