Finally got permission to post this work-in-progress icon for an app called 'Profiterole'.

Because of the tricky bread texture, feedback, please? :)

    Delicious, Angela! :D
The texture is quite similar to the profiteroles I usually eat. Perhaps a bit less dense like in the portion bellow the white cream, but darker like the portion above it.
About the white cream... have you tried a version with less of it? My profiteroles don't show any white cream before I slice them. That way it would move your profiterole away from looking similar to a "bola de berlim" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berliner_(pastry) .

Really nice, angela, the main issue IMHO is that the icon feels a little... photoshopped. If you rough up the edges on the bread part, subtly, it will keep it from looking layer-masked in, and add texture. Some stronger, "real" [not occlusion] shadows and reflected light would really bring everything together, and make it more unified. I would suggest getting the shading on the textured part done first on flat color, then adding the texture as an overlay, to ensure that your lighting is how you want it. I've found that duplicating the texture layer a couple times and having it as an overlay, multiply, and screen/add/dodge layer helps me fine tune things. Some additional detail [bubbles, drips] on the cream/chocolate would help it feel more detailed and more in line with the puff itself.

It's a great start, looks delicious, just needs a little bit of work to pull it all together. Nice work, Angela, look forward to seeing the final version.
