As much as I love the last couple, I read this much faster, the other two i read as a military badge first, then it took me a few seconds to make out the cake.
This is genius on so many levels. I was recently talking to a friend about negative space in logos and how it can be a total game-changer; this is a perfect example!
fav of the ones I've seen thus far. The other one I couldn't really tell it was cake at first. This one, you can definitely see the outline. I'm not 100% excited about the font used, but it's a huge improvement in my opinion.
Very clever. Nice use of the negative space. I think there's some potential to improve the legibility of the "highly decorated" but it works well as is too (even at a very small size). Great work Greg!

Ok, what ya think? Played with the kerning and added the plate. It's faintly reminiscent of a drill sergeant's hat as well.

Here's the thing. The implication - the whole reason this wonderful negative space works - is that the ghost cake is in *front* of the type.
Yet, the type dodges the cake profile. Why? (That's a rhetorical question.)
Maybe consider trying one that slightly knocks out rather than 'wraps' the type.

Much much better but the typography still is not on par with the logo

Plus, it's brown and I love chocolate cake :)

Yeah, not sure about the type-wrap gimmick.
But the cake definitely reads first, and the chevrons still read, which seems like a more proper message hierarchy.
Looking good.

the cake looks great, the text simply needs to be a little more legible. then this will be a superb logo
