Sky blue/turquoise definitely evokes vintage better, gives it a hopeful and idealized tone like the 1960's that used the colour to great effect along with other pastels in such things as cars, bakelite accessories and home appliances.
The cursive font at the top is very much in keeping with this theme, reminding me of vintage advertisements for anything from cars to sandwich bread.
Then you have the letter-pressed all-caps sans-serif in the same colour, lending a vintage twist to something so thoroughly modern.
It works on a number of levels and I think you've executed it brilliantly. I can almost imagine a stylized illustration of an auction involved with the rest of the design (a bit like this but more detailed: http://www.flickr.com/photos/neatocoolville/2671976372/).
I think you nailed the colour and font pairings, the only thing I was left to play with were the stars! Not rendered as well as I'd like but you get the idea.
Do you have to have the stars? If this is just making you over think it just ignore me ;-)

Love this font pairing. Alternate colors. Cooler, but maybe soothing as well.

Looking for input on this shot and the one I rebounded it from. This is meant to feel vintage, but still have a touch of a fresh feel to it.

I think this color palette works a lot better at communicating vintage and fresh. Looks great!

PS: Since this is going up as a 'debut' for me let me point out this is actually just a rebound of Steve Fishers original, here: http://dribbble.com/shots/210670-Alternate-Colors-
