I'm making a massive UI PSD pack to sell on my store: http://store.drewwilson.com

    :D

Any suggestions for elements you want me to add to the pack?

i am using a few of the Pictos icons here and there.. but not more than a couple. other than that, no, it will not come with Pictos. this is a separate product :)

I've always wondered about these UI packs, won't it just result in a lot of websites looking very much alike?

I think these are good if prototyping but as sources for the actual designs I agree with @Andreas & it just means all sites will start to look the same.

I can see why it would 'seem' that way guys, but that simply isn't the case.
For example, my Picos icons, they are popular and use widely, but it is hardly enough to make 'everything' look the same.
Even if everyone did use Pictos, it doesn't mean that the websites would look the same because of he icons.
Same goes for 365PSD.com or Design Moo or Design Kindle... they all off stock design resources, but it hardly means everything will look the same. Plus those resources are free and more popular than mine.. So that means more downloads, and again not everying looks the same.
There are plenty designers and devs that find resources like this super valuable and helpful. Bottom line, there are WAY too many web designers/devs in the world to make it possible for this stock resource "over-used".

Awesome... maybe some video players and various skins.
some header bar for an application, 2 skins... something that will revamp the app design nowadays, as many have been going this route.

@Drew, I wasn't suggesting that your UI pack would cause the demise of all unique webdesign as we know it ;) hehe

It was a far broader and more general contemplation. I was just wondering what UI packs and stuff like that do for webdesign in general. Also I'd argue that a UI pack in a higher degree affects a design (as it's a larger part of the design) than icon packs for instance?

(But even if the web should end up looking the same, it might as well be looking the same by all looking good - so in that aspect I guess your pack is ideal)

  12. Pro Drew-avatar Drew Wilson

@Andreas, ya i agree it can affect the overall design, but that is up the designer who buys the pack... to make sure the design works well together. So even though you can argue that the pack would affect the overall design, i think that it really has nothing to do with the pack and everything to do with the designer putting together the design. :)

@Drew It'll sell a heck of a lot better if it's a CSS/HTML UI kit, rather than just PSD. Plus you've been slacking off lately, PICK UP THE PACE! :P

By the way, if you want to post a mini-set for free on 365psd or Designmoo, just let me or Rich know.

Perhaps these are broad enough categories that they should be "sold separately" : )...but it would be fun to see similar elements across a variety of medias (iPhone to web to Mac app etc.)

And don't forget tool presets and style presets! Much easier to use than dragging stuff from another PSD - though of course you can do that too.

Next I want to see a texture pack from you. ;-)

Yeah everyone already has prototype stuff for the iPad, if you're going to make it worth good coin I'd say offer the elements in html/css… I can always drop $40 on PSD buttons, but with the the packs of stuff I have I use my own style. having the controls as css3/html5 would be helpful for quick mockups…
