Book illustrations

Here's a look at some of the illustrations I made for a childrens book recently. I started the project by sketching initial ideas and directions in Procreate. My original plan was to take those sketches and vectorize them in Illustrator. Time got away from me and I ended up building everything in Procreate.

This was the first childrens book I had illustrated. I learned a lot about the steps involved in self-publishing on Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing). Mainly, its simpler than I would have expected. If anyone is curious about publishing a book idea they've been sitting on for a while, feel free to reach out with any questions!

The original illustrations were done in a pencil/charcoal style. I realized a flat style might be easier to implement across pages and decided to go in that direction. To get a similar look, I added a grain filter to all the pages before combining into a single doc.
