I think the linework on the other was a little distracting from the type. It might be cool to bring in that script here, except without the skewed angle. Might be interesting... might look stupid haha
yep - best so far - what if there was some overprinting with other colors? i love this effect with cyclone and just adds some interest - take a look at the feed and grain logo in the tenfold portfolio to see what im talking about :)
It looks really cool but I'm afraid Cyclone is done. Along with Hellenic its just too easy to use. I used it in the Foundry logo and never realized how popular it would get and now we're going through the process of removing it from our brand. With our designs we have to ask ourselves that if we took a certain typeface out of the design would it still be good? And if the typeface is anchoring the design then maybe its time for a different approach.
Thanks guys.
@ Scott, I agree that Cyclone is overly used. I think its easy to use though because it's a well designed face. Take Futura, for example, it's been through trends, but it's still a great typeface and always will be. This mark relies on type to tie everything together. I think this mark would still stand if Cyclone was replaced with something such as Knockout, Interstate condensed, Tungsten, etc. Also personal opinion, but I think its ok to have a typeface anchor the design.
That being said, this isn't a final mark. I have lots of work to do on this, so I appreciate the crit.
@ evan i agree - i dont' think there's anything wrong with making use a widely recognized typeface as long as you make it your own - i think if it's interesting and appropriate then go for it - i do understand scott's point of taking a typeface out and the design still being good - however - designers choose the faces they do for a reason and someone who isn't using said typeface thoughtfully can't make it look good - cyclone doesn't save a bad design - and it doesn't make it good - so if you can make it interesting i say go for it
I'm with Scott. I think you're a way better designer than this mark, Evan. No offense, but it's not much more than Cyclone in a circle. There's not much going conceptually, and there's not really a stylistic hook either.
I think it's an okay mark, but I know you can do much better.
Taylor,
Thanks for the feedback dude, I appreciate a good crit. No offense taken at all. It's WIP and I'm glad the dribbble community is showing up to help a brother out.

Like this one much better, type treatment on the other is cool but the organization of this one sits better!

I keep going back to this caravan design of the ones you've created as my favorite. Perhaps I'm an oldskool thinker, but it's the most catching to me.

Cyclone aside, I really like this one. I think it would be worth exploring some other fonts and additional/alternate colors.
