Logo & Visual Identity Design for an upcoming Music Producer

brand identity sketch

See how we developed a visual language for European EDM producer WJW that aligns with his sound, early influence & his love for hands-on analog sound production.

With a background in music, it's surprising that I don't work on more music related projects. Needless to say, whenever the opportunity comes up (and the artist has a budget over $50) I'm eager to partner with the right candidates. WJW is an up & coming EDM artist who produces his own blend of mind bending lofi tracks with influence from the 90's garage scene in the UK.

Above, you'll see the moodboards we put together to establish a visual direction & aesthetic for the project. I personally try to give my clients a few different styles to choose from. For this particular project, it was important that we incorporated some of WJW's personal tastes & inspiration.

Usually, I will suggest to my clients to stay away from personal preferences & to put the customer or target audience first in terms of the creative style. However, for bands or music artists, I would encourage incorporating as much of their personal influence as possible because in the end, they aren't doing this for a customer, they're doing it for them.

I used an audio track from one of WJW's upcoming singles to accommodate this simple but fun logo reveal. Be sure to turn up your volume to hear some of his new track, "Burnin" while checking out this logo reveal GIF.

One important factor when designing a logo or mark is that it must look good on merchandise! Below are some concepts we presented along with the identity.
