Love the flat colours and the photography. A much cleaner, more professional looking direction, in my opinion. I don't love Museo, but other than that this shot looks great to me!
@Tuhin - I had a little transparency in there at first, but since the photo is so dominant I needed to balance the visual complexities across the site. Making the green 100% opaque dramatically increased legibility and reduced eye strain.
@Phil Once again the "whole" vs "closer" look on dribbble made the interpretation blurred.
Now that you mention, I can imagine exactly the issues that transparent nav would bring if the image is dominant.
I think that designs that utilize large imagery for the background show power. Being that this is for some sort of education, it is fitting. Looks great Phil!
I figured as much about Museo. Not saying its inappropriate, just that i don't have a preference for it. Looking again, it actually looks pretty decent in the navigation section, even if I still don't love it in the big header.
Still doesn't detract from this shot, though. Still love the choice of green, the translucence of the sub navigation, and the photograph!
That dark, semi-transparent bar underneath the green nav is actually a ticker showing who's leading in "likes". On the far right it says "Rankings:" and starts at the #1 position and starts scrolling schools. Think Nascar.

Started a 2nd concept for this project I've been working on for a few days now. I'm utilizing photography more and flat colors.
Doing a 2nd concept was somewhat of a last minute decision and surprisingly I'm really liking this direction, maybe more than the first.

Looks nice, but not a fan of Museo either. Perhaps something like Vitesse could work well here?

Thanks for the comments guys, but I have to keep Museo since it's part of the client's brand guidelines.

How about adding some transparency (even if little) to the Green bar and a bit more to the black bar.
The orange flagspread looks great.

I dig the opacity on the sub-nav. Great job. This is better than the previous shot.

Everything looks good. I love the red social banner. Also I am glad you used Sign In and not Login. I can't stand login.
