An idea that I had for a Dribbble enhancement. I'm generally the curious type, wondering who's also following me. Sure, I could look through my list of followers. For others with larger lists, that can be cumbersome. I think a visual representation makes it much easier.

    Some implementation challenges:
    A) It adds another color to the mix. I didn't want to use a darker blue since that is reserved for Comments icon. But I didn't want it anything other than blue so that the Pro button is still the main focus. (The Pro button should remain the main focus since it's one of the ways the site generates revenue.)

    B) The matter of the icon. Should it remain a checkmark? Or should it be something else? I like the 'O' as it conjures up the 'Xs' and 'Os' of basketball play books. I don't think it can be a checkmark as that symbol conveys that you successfully completed a task. But in the action of someone following you, you didn't complete the task. Plus, in the case of both the following and the followed by inactive buttons, they'd both be checkmarks. It's a tough one.

C or The Biggest Challenge IMO) Everything in that byline on Dribbble right now is a link. In my idea, the new addition isn't a button or a link; it's only an indicator. That could raise the question as to why some things in that byline are clickable and why some aren't.

A possible solution would be to have that button represent the action of blocking other users from following you. This functionality already exists on Dribbble, albeit in a less prominent location. Is it worth bringing this functionality to the forefront, only for the sake of interactive consistency? I don't know the answer. My gut tells me yes as I love consistency.

Again, it's just an idea that I had. Making this change affects other areas on the site such as the designer profile page (not your own) and the activity feed. Check out inactive and active states, along with tooltip text.

    What are your thoughts?

I think it's a great idea and very well justified & dissected.

I really like the idea of the "whose following me" button, what about also adding a "suggest shot to a friend" button. Maybe you know Aaron Allen isn't following Joshua Krohn (which he is it's just an example), and Jon Ashcroft finds a shot by Josh he thinks Aaron would really like, he could suggest a shot to Aaron.

This is where you would show the "suggested" section for each player. What actually made me think of this is the fact that I liked your "whose following me" button idea so much I wanted to suggest it to Dan right then and there.

I thought Joshua's idea of "... is following you" was so clever that I spent a good part of my day working on this extension to do just what he outlined; that is, show a small icon when the dribbbler you're viewing is following you.

Making this was a great opportunity to practice some JavaScript and Chrome Extension building (a first for me!) It wouldn't be possible without the Dribbble API.

    v1.0 Technical Notes:
    - Currently works on 'shots' pages only. Not profiles yet.
    - The 'follow' status is cached (12 hrs) so as to avoid hammering the API if, for example, you view several shots from the same user in a short period of time.
    - The more people a user follows, the longer this takes to run, this is because dribbble's API only allows you to request 30 at a time.
    - There's no options page or interface icon yet. You can disable/enable it from the chrome://extensions page.
    - Original idea & Icon design credit goes to Joshua, thanks mate!

I'm open to any feedback or feature requests. Let me know!

@Joshua: I can't come up with anything better than what Scott wrote :-) That's what I meant.

This is just a quick mockup I put together, thought it would be cool if you could follow projects :)

I think it would be cool to add a conversion rate to the dribbble pro stats section. A shot's "like" count isn't exactly a good feel for how it is received by the dribbble population. For example a shot that has been up for say a year and has 1000 "likes" with 20,000 "views" most likely isn't as well received by our community as a new shot you put up that has 50 likes with only 70 views.
