Ole Miss Landsharks | Athletic Dept. Identity Extension

In early 2018, the University of Mississippi, often known as Ole’Miss, contacted Rare Design with the challenge of crafting a new collection of logos to represent their new mascot: The Landshark.

Nearly ten years after the story began, and after continued support from the Ole’Miss athletics community, the administration decided to adopt the Landshark as their official mascot. Inspired by Tony Fein, the Ole' Miss linebacker who started the legend of the Landshark, the challenge for our team was to represent a fictitious creature in a manner that connected it with Ole’Miss, its state-wide fan base, and integrated it seamlessly with the athletic department's existing brand system.

While on the team at Rare, I had the opportunity to help design three of the new Landshark logos and create its official launch video. Info & links below.

The Reveal

To introduce the new Landshark logo and complementary marks, I created an animation under Rare's direction using tight shots to obscure the logo's form while progressively stepping back to reveal the full logo in the final shot.
