Precision insights for growers

For the last few years I’ve been working in the exciting agritech space with Aerobotics. 🌳🍊

Aerobotics gives growers the power to make data-driven decisions and take action when and where it matters the most. I worked closely with the product team, our CRM team and our grower customers to design the experiences through which they engage with our insights.

With high-resolution multispectral data captured by drone, Aerobotics provides numerous layers of data on the performance of perennial crops, including the health, vigor and transpiration of plants, and the relative elevation of the orchards. With machine learning models we isolate trees from ground cover in the imagery, to provide accurate tree counts and canopy measurements.

I designed a new reporting interface for our web app, in which our grower customers view these layers of data across their farms. The objective of this piece of reporting is for the growers to quickly identify and isolate areas of poor performance – within an orchard, row or group of trees.

Every insight can be filtered down from the full farm to an orchard and then to each individual tree. Having the insights smoothed into larger zones proved to be a more practical approach, as growers and agronomists take remedial actions on a larger scale rather than addressing individual plants - for example applying variable rate fertilizer or managing irrigation system pressure.

With the compare feature, the grower is able to split their view between two data layers to see if there is any correlation between insights. The feature can also split the view between two dates to visualize changes in performance over time.

This was a highly requested enhancement to the product which helped our growers get closer to diagnosing plant performance issues and ultimately optimizing their yields.
