Restaurant Management App

Hey everybody,

I wanted to give you some insight into one of my biggest projects, which I have now been working on for nearly half a year. It is a Restaurant Management Software that is being used by lots of different customers, but was built as a windows native application. So the client wanted to build a updated version that is completely web based, responsive, lightweight and modern. Additionally he needed a new versatile design system to make building all these different aspects as quick an easy as possible.

And after some research and exploration, this is the design system we settled for. I will show you two example aspects of the software and how the new system handles the complexity.

The screenshots are taken from the prototype I built. To speed up the prototyping and exploration phase I made heavy use of HTML, CSS and TailwindCSS, which I am a big fan of. This way the client could easily use the prototype as if he would be using the real product, show it to clients and hand it off to his developers, as soon as we would finish a segment of the product.

Scheduling

This is probably the main feature of the software. It enables the customer to schedule their workforce according to different employee preferences and restaurant needs. It features a overview screen with various options for the manager to help im plan the week, as well as employee specific subviews.

Requests

Another important aspect of the software is resolving incoming requests as clean and organised as possible. This can include a sick leave as well as basic document needs. It features a overview that can be filtered, as well as request specific views that show the full details of each request.

Additionally I added two screenshots of the buddy mobile app, that gets used by the employees. That's their main way to interact with their restaurant managers.

So far it was a very pleasant and interesting project to work on. Prototyping in HTML is such a great solution and it always makes life so much easier for everybody. Perhaps I will update this project as it evolves further.

Thanks for you attention & have a nice weekend.
