The Chaparral of the United States
And now for one of my favorites of the series! The southwestern area of the United States is home to both woodlands and grasslands, called the “chaparral biome.” A lot of the animals in the chaparral are nocturnal.
The broadleaf evergreen shrubs, bushes, and small trees that grow here have adapted to the hot, dry summers (but not too hot). The biggest threats to the chaparral are wildfires and land development.
