A filtered search bar that I'm working on for a personal project. The rest of the design is actually super flat, and the search is probably one of the only things that has any sort of depth or gradient.
I like the location of the menu... it encourages its use and keeps the two actions (filter and search icon) separate.
Something about the top/bottom gradient on the gray dropdown is throwing me off. Perhaps make it a bit smoother? Feels more like a one-click button rather than a menu.
I have to say I agree with Eric... not only does it encourage use, but the logical progress is choose category from dropdown (if necessary) then search. Left > right.
