Setouchi Triennale - All you need to know

Insight - One of the most famous international modern art festival

“Setouchi Triennale” is a modern art festival held on 14 islands and harbors in Setouchi inland sea, which includes 3 seasons as spring season (April 14th~May 18th), summer season (August 5th ~ September 4th), autumn season (September 29th ~ November 6th) - all together the time span will reach up to 105 days.

It originally started in 2010 and this year (2022) is the 5th time of this festival. Every time when the festival starts, there were over 1 million visitors coming from both within Japan and abroad, making it one of the most famous international art festivals.

From 2022, considering providing better visiting experience and convenience for visitors, and also improving the work efficiency of the local staff. We - Est rouge - are honored to be chosen and started this new project of making paper tickets into a digital app.

Goal & Idea - Provide a digital experience to enjoy the festival

Before this project, we have already acquired rather rich experience in digital tickets from many projects of creating music festival apps in Japan. By using our previous knowledge and technology, we set the goal of this project to create an app that can combine digital ticket purchase/use, artwork/event information, stamp rally, coupon function, and map function together in one app.

On top of that, we also aimed to create UI and UX that can improve the visiting experience of the festival.

Highlighted Points - Focusing on the UX of the visitors

We defined the basic UX in the beginning according to the visitors behavior and needs in 3 steps as: 

Before coming to the festival > During the festival > After leaving the festival

The app will be created as an introduction of the Setouchi Triennale to all who are interested and provide nice and enjoyable experiences for people who decide to visit at the same time.

Impact - Innovative change of UX that is widely reported

Our app is reported by various kinds of media from the start of the festival, from local news, national news, to visitors' blogs, it has become an innovative experience change. 

When the festival starts, many find it easier and fun to visit the festival using this digital ticket app. It seems we have successfully provided another up-to-date option for this beautiful international event. We can assume that for the upcoming seasons, our app will keep making a big part of the festival.
