Thanks guys!appreciate the feedback.I had this cool fish-eyed effect dolphin starring into the porthole..and seaweed and fishes n stuff.but client was happy so..maybe ill do the dolphin and things when i get time
@Ritchie it reminded me of the classic Lost (when Lost were good enough to watch) scene within the same door/window http://images.wikia.com/lostpedia/images/5/52/Notpennysboat.jpg I'm kinda sentimental when design reminds me of something from movies, etc. Sorry for interrupting yr work ;-)
Great details! Can't imagine seeing your second attempt.
Quick tip: make sure you save the actual production version of the icon as a full square, i.e. no transparency around the borders. C.F. Neven Mrgan's post on the problem here: http://mrgan.tumblr.com/post/4213859594/broken-ios-icons
Luke, Totally! I know it sounds weird, but the images for the app bundle and the App Store should all be square. Add whatever treatment you'd give to the rounded corners where they'd be if you weren't saving it as a square, but don't leave any transparency. The rounded corners are done at the code level, but not always exactly the same.
I'll use my app as an example. Here's the actual retina display icon: http://cl.ly/8JEJ
@Jared,Thanks a lot for the info and example. Only concern is that it Doesn't seem to very accurate.Isn't there an accurate way to make the shape yourself?..that way you could have more control over the corner area - in terms of shadows and what not.

Thanks Jared!i i saved the final as a rounded shape like this. So you mean let the shape "bleed" out? instead of cutting it into a rounded square?
