Ok, so it's technically not what I'm working on NOW, but rather, 13 years ago. This is one of the many illustrations I created for the Cocktail book I designed and illustrated in 1997. I just found a CD in our garage with all the hi-rez files which I thought were long gone by now. Yes, sadly, this drink was/is named the Frisco. But don't you dare call our town that...
As I just tweeted earlier, 1997 means these illustrations were created in Photoshop 4.0, before editable type layers.
For a little bit of perspective, my first experience with Photoshop was in 8th grade with v7—and I thought that it was amazing :). Learning that one app (along with a curiosity for HTML and CSS) is what got me into web design.
I recall lens flares and difference clouds ruled the land.
Ah, but Joshua, remember, back in the days of yore there was no FANCY SHMANCY outer glow. Technically he duplicated-the-martini-glass-layer-then-brightened-it-to-white-and-then-gaussian-blurred the hell of it.
I vaguely recall Photoshop 4.0, but I think at the time I still wanted to be a programmer not designer, so pixels were for sissies. Still, classy looking drink ;)
Oh nostalgia. I've still got a copy of this book on my shelf. Who was the author? Paul something? I ran into him at Bourbon and Branch and we had a big chat about the HotWired days.

4 was the first version I got comfy with in 98 but 5 and 5.5 were my workhorses. Skipped 6, went to 7 and then went to CS3.
Cheers!
