Product Development Process Workshop

Overview

Over three meetings we identified key pain points in the product development process from PMs, engineers, DI, and research. We conducted several exercises to dig deeper into the cause of these and ideated together on a solution. In these workshops, UX synthesized the process demands from each function into a proposed product development process. In a one hour workshop we gathered feedback then identified tactical next steps for implementation and agreed upon responsibility for each stage to ensure cross-functional accountability, while aligning with our partners from product and engineering.

First we identified key problem areas in our process, and looked at what changes we could make.

Then we aligned with our engineering partners!

Finally we started to refine the teams ideal product development process.

Summary

  • Agree on what steps should not be skipped from a UX perspective.

  • Work with product to drive the creation of one-pagers with help from UX, and one Lead/Principal engineer.

  • Initiates kickoff meeting after this one-pager is done.

  • Research, UX, DI, Eng will always be included in project kickoffs.

  • Agree that UX work should start 3-6 weeks before previous release LPF so that PM, research, and UX have time for medium to large projects.

  • Check in often to iterate this process.
