Started doodling this yesterday whilst on the phone at the end of a long day in the office. Worked a little on it this morning and thought I'd upload it.
Never done anything like this before but I'm reasonably happy with it :)
I love the curvasive hand drawn type on dribbble and this is an attempt at getting started with it. Thoughts?
Agree with Dave about the Hische influence but I don't think that's a bad thing!
I don't know if it's just because I have the mind of an 8 year old but the "L" in lettering before the "art" bit did make me think it said the "Fart of lettering" which may or may not be an awesome new genre of typography you've just discovered ....
David, thanks for your insights, that's some fantastic feedback!
Those examples of swirls you've given are absolutely stunning and that's what I'm aiming towards. To be honest, the lettering above started as a doodle on my sketchpad in the office whilst on the phone.
I'm planning on putting this into Illustrator and working on those curves, making them more rounded and improving the balance somewhat. It's incredibly heavy on the right.
I do have a basic tablet at home which never worked on my old laptop. I will try it over the weekend on the new macbook and hopefully, it'll help me clean this right up!

Looking good, it has a 'hint-of-Hische' about it.

Thanks Dave. I'm a big fan of Ms. Hische so that comment's made my day :)

You've got some good skills there—particularly the lowercase letters. I always find those the hardest!
Where I think it could be improved are with the swirls... maybe try making a more rounded overall shape with them. e.g. http://gvd.mn/8e8O http://gvd.mn/8e5l http://gvd.mn/8e6I
I'd maybe start by increase the size of the L loop, bringing it out to even up the swirls on the right.
Hope that helps! :)

First steps in turning this into digitising this sketch.
I'm really really rough with the pen tool and this needs so much work to get right but hoping it'll improve with practice!
