This is beautifully executed. I think the only concern is that the highlighted state might not be visually strong enough. But it might feel different as an interactive site, rather than an image. Either way, it's beautiful.
imo I'd like a sharper edge on the hover state drawer. :) Would be cool to add some perspective as well (so we see a little bit of the inside of the drawer) but looks slick!
Me and Asher were discussing this yesterday, but I am putting it here in the spirit of the Dribbble community. I am wondering if nobody found it disturbing that about 70x30px space is used up by a drawer that while being visually mighty good, doesn't introduce any functionality but just indicate the active state.
Nice, yeah the first two icons are over to the left a little too much, I also think the third icon is maybe 1px too far over to the right lol, I think this looks really nice though, I could see some nice webkit action on hover making these work really nicely.

Just came up with an idea of navigation for a portfolio site.I am not sure if it's free of usability errors. What do you think?

Looks nice, but I agree—not sure if it's practical. Maybe drape some socks over the edge to emphasize that they're drawers.
But to be clear, I think it's pretty slick looking.

I think it lakes some text. I will always be in the camp of those who think that UI should always be a mix of image+text.
But this design is insane, I love it!

It's probably just my eyes, but the first two icons look like they're one pixel too far left.

Text could be possibly appended using a tag as such.
Otherwise, really great and unique idea.
