I'm not too sure about the big text at the top and they way it overlaps the top and edges but I want it to be obvious that it is the background showing as the text fill.

looking like a nice piece and I think your right about the text overlapping, try it without it overlapping maybe? or maybe just have the 'S' bigger and overlapping the top left corner...? :)
