I've actually been using it on and off for a while already. I just never really looked into setting up lights and getting nice renders until now. (Bonus fact: That mcobj Minecraft level-to-3D converter is actually what got me interested :P )
I don't really know to be honest ... I've just been picking it up along the way, consulting Google and the manual from time to time. I don't know whether there are any good tutorials specifically for using it to make icons, but if there are I'd love to read them.
@Jerry, @Will: take a look at the great tutorials on http://greyscalegorilla.com/blog/. Also, search on vimeo and youtube as there are many interesting videos. Hope this helps.

I didn't want to model another iPhone/iPad, so I did an iPad dock!

Haha! Bad guess - it looks awesome. I will have to have a play around with it.

Looks great! How do you find Cinema4D's modeling tools?

Paul: So far they're holding up quite well, although I've yet to do anything really complex.

Incredible shading!

Wow. How did you get such sharp edges? Photoshop or just some fantastical render settings?

I have a background in Maya so hopefully it won't be too hard to adjust to Cinema4D. Hopefully...

Jonas: I've added a light sharpening filter in Photoshop after scaling it down, but otherwise it's simply a model with, well, sharp edges.

Philipp, have you been looking for resources and reading lots of reference, or did you just dive into C4D? I'm genuinely interested.

What would you suggest for people looking to get started with the app? It's my summer project. :P
