Student Pubs Brand Manual 2020

Student Publications, or Student Pubs for short, is an affiliated project of the Student Government Association (SGA) at Florida State University (FSU). It is housed in the Department of Student Governance & Advocacy (SG&A) under the Division of Student Affairs. By student statute, Student Pubs is tasked with providing free color printing, graphic design, and event photography for SGA, SG&A, campus partners, and recognized student organizations at FSU. In the 2018-19 academic year, it fulfilled 345 design requests, 85 event photography requests, and printed 158,244 prints for over 98 student organizations. It also published over 10 student publications and guidebooks, and won two Student Employee awards.

Student Publications existed as an entity in the Division of Student Activities for over ten years, but had never undergone the process of developing its own brand or visual identity, formalizing its resources and brand assets, or marketing its services to the students it serves. During my tenure as creative director and supervisor, I focused on establishing a creatively supportive environment, team building, and providing the student staff with the experiential learning experience of going through a large scale branding process by crafting the Student Pubs brand and strategy.

The Student Pubs Brand Manual is the culmination of this work. Though I designed the manual, it also features brand assets created by student staff and art directed by myself. At 44 pages, the document serves to engage and inform anyone working the Student Pubs brand. The manual was also designed to provide an adaptable, sustainable brand structure that can be replicated for other student brands within the Division of Student Activities.
