Destruction Gate

This is a visual meditation on these words of Jesus: "...the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many." (Matthew 7:13).

My model for the sign was the "Midway" sign at the the state fair of Texas, which was a fascinating design to study (you can see the reference photo in the shot of my Illustrator artboards). I have nothing against fairs, it just came to mind as a modern example of wide gate.

This was created mostly in Adobe Illustrator. I used Proxima Nova Black for the text. The fill is a pattern I created to mimic the lightbulbs (also in a separate shot).

The rainbow neon was fun to make. I couldn't quite get the same effect as the original, which ended up leading me to the idea of the less-realistic-but-fun overlapping warped neon lines.

The final touch was a light grain effect in Photoshop using the Camera Raw filter to make it look more like a photograph.
