I think this is heading in the right direction. I am enjoying the simplicity.
One thing I'm not certain about is the way you have the buttons displayed on the left side. Each of those inactive states looks more like "disabled" than selectable. Maybe you could do something similar to the Twitter for Mac client: http://cl.ly/6W78
They look a little more tactile and clickable when they're raised in my opinion :D.
i might be wrong, but i disagree with what courtny said above. I think what you have is solid. the gradient direction indicates it's depressed and once its selected make sure the direction is opposite to indicate a selected state.
