We made some subtle changes to the toolbar and sidebar in Spotify 0.5. Noteworthy: Chrome-inspired toolbar buttons, focus state on search field (about time…), username/name was moved from the sidebar, new radio icon, and line-height changed to 20px in the sidebar (up from 18px).

I like the muted color scheme here very much.
IMHO the source list feels bit cramped. Not sure if it's because the slightly dark background or not.

I think subtle improvements in the source list and toolbar are actually the things I enjoyed most of the update. Very delightful, modern, and fresh.

Do you have plans on "Lionify" the UI later on?

Can't wait to see these changes implemented. Great work again Tobias.

EDIT: Also, when is this released?

Everything looks sharper, just like when I went from iPhone 3GS to iPhone4. Good job Tobias!

Something bugs me about the navigation buttons. I'm not a fan of the button boundary only showing on hover and I kinda miss that from the older version. Nothing that will stop me paying the 9.99 a month though ;)

Tobias, I get the idea you're the interface designer for Spotify. This is more of a UX request, but what the hell.

I like to horde, especially when it comes to music. Right now I've got this setup in the playlists area: http://cl.ly/6WOJ

The thing is, each time I add a new album, I want it to go alphabetically in the list. Right now, I have to drag the album to the 'New Playlist' drop, which takes a lot of scrolling down to, then when it's added I have to drag it all the way back up into alphabetical order. This drives me crazy.

There should be an area of the playlist section that you can drop your albums into (without highlighting an already established playlist) which then puts them in alphabetical order by artist name.

Sorry about the long post buddy, but I got so many quirks with this app. What in the hell happened to the search history area? One day someone just deleted the bastard. That feature was so damn important. They actually got rid of it on Grooveshark too. A galactically stupid decision.

@Jack Yeah, I've found that some love it and some hate it. It's definitely a trade off — much cleaner without the boundary visible at all times, but not as discoverable. Will continue experimenting with that area.

@Mitch I'm aware of the playlist management problems. The search history is still available though, if you click the arrow next to the search magnifying glass. I don't want to turn this into a general discussion about Spotify, but if you've got more feedback feel free to reach me at ahlin@spotify.com.

That's all I got man. Also, I had no idea that little arrow was there next to the magnifying glass, d'oh.

You're doing excellent work sir, and I look forward to all the developments you make.

Looks good! I'm just concerned that the larger line-height will make the sidebar even longer. I like it otherwise – it feels more modern.

Bringing the search and prev/back buttons inside the area they control makes a lot more sense.
