    Thanks for the awesome feedback guys! I dropped the label, added left/right nav to the number part, and also put labels at the bottom of the image to navigate to the next item. It allows the labels themselves to help drive clicks. (Inside page, Logo Closeup, etc);

    The inset background fades off by the bottom of the screenshot which is why it is no longer there at the bottom!

    As I look at it again, I think I am leaning toward the original design without the label in the well, and using just the bottom labels (next/prev) as a means of alternate navigation.

    Doug, I think I'm with you on doing just the numbers in the well. Other than that, looks great! Nice work!

    Good call. As long as there is some directional device leading towards the next (or prev) item, you're good. I think the arrows in the well are too heavy here... but great to see/compare/contrast.

    Seeing the bottom puts it all in perspective. Nice!

    @Jeff and @Dave

    Thanks for the feedback, I really, really appreciate it. This is all part of the new portfolio section I am launching on our business site, so I want it to be really top notch and easy to use.

    In my development version I have removed the arrows from top, and just have the next/prev at the bottom of the image. I am playing with a caption for the currently showing image to the left of the well, but it might get axed :)

    The pagination thing is awesome! I think the 1px line going through the thumb is a bit too much for me, since there is already such detail.
