It would be interesting to know how often search fields are actually used by visitors of blogs, and whether they truly merit the spatial priority they are usually given.
@Makalu Depends on the content of the blog. For a portfolio it is often not needed. But if it is more of a content churning blog, it is used like hell.
Hi Tuhin, do you have evidence that in general they are "used like hell"? From our observations and testing, we're beginning to get the impression that people don't trust the reliability of website-embedded search, often preferring to use Google, even for site-scoped search.

One thing I am thinking is that the hand may be a bit too large. Maybe make it the same height as the textbox? Just a thought.
I guess it could go both ways though. It is pointing to the word "Search" after all. I think either way will work.
