The container is a clean icon styled affair, using muted metallic silver and navy blues to further remove our 'Orb' logo from the many horrific versions out there. But still retaining its grass routes. This is clearly a orb, but again, hopefully not too grim. I had added 'fun' little orb feet, so the orb stands free, thus creating a more flexible logomark in its own right, injects some character into, rather than just a plain sphere.
The x-height roughly same size as the 'orb feet'.
As usual, please feel free to comment, improvements, suggestions or just plain insults. Ta.
Hey Graham, I really like the type treatment and custom "orb" wordmark within the globe.
The feet feel a little strange to me. It makes me want to make a character (like a cartoon) out of that mark and I'm not sure if that is appropriate.
I honestly think you could lose the feet altogether and it would be a very successful logo. The big orb and internal "orb" wordmark could easily be used as a freestanding element in and of themselves.
The feet just complicate things a little bit too much.
Jord, Simon, Christopher and Chris : Gonna do a non-feet version and see what it feels like.
My concern is that it then becomes just another 'round orb logo'. I feel the feet add some interest, and help steer it away from being just another cliche round orb.
The other point was that the feet then gave me a hook to align the wording with. Without the feet, I would probably have to move the wording up so it aligns vertically centered.
But I do get what you are saying, I'll post a revised version soon for comparison.
This is a revision based on some earlier feedback from the original submission. Removed the 'feet' and now its just relying on the custom 'orb' logotype and wording.
I can't help but feel this is a little soulless, especially after seeing the 'little feet'. No denying its clean and smart, but feels empty.
There was an element of relevancy for the 'feet', they helped provide a subtle reference to being 'held firm', solid grounding, stable and reliable.
Also think the 'feet' makes this more brandable and ownable...
So personally now can't decide : feet or no feet. :)

A challenging name for a logo design. Just Google search 'orb logos' and you'll see what I mean. Has to be the most abused cliché.
But equally, there is no getting away that 'orb' is the company name.
This is one of a few ideas currently being presented to the client. The typemark is custom drawn, a free flowing form, clean, modern, fuss free. And hopefully not cliché in anyway.

I'm with Christopher on the 'feet' - you could lose them and still have a really strong logo.
