06 | Empress Of — I’m Your Empress Of
Honduran-descendant Lorely Rodríguez aka Empress Of is redefining alt music with her electro-infused unique style (with the help of @beejburton, who is literally the Producer of the Year for me). One of the things I adore about this record (and almost her entire work) is how she uses her music to embrace her heritage singing in both English and Spanish, but also, featuring some clips with thoughts from her mother, a diasporic woman proud of herself. Lyrically, this album seems to be very personal as it depicts the feelings, angst and self discovery of Empress Of. It feels so pure, campy and fresh to the ears.
