This "sawtooth" style shading is fantastic. Digitally you pull it off perfectly I could never replicate that kind of hatching in a digital medium. Great light logic - can really feel the tangling of tentacles.

I draw with a real brush and ink most of the time. The coloring is typically digital, though.
I just set a raster, round brush to vary its size with pressure sensitivity. I make feathered strokes the same way I would with a real brush and ink.
See: Milton Caniff, Johnny Craig, Noel Sickles, Charles Burns, and a host of other great inkers for inspiration.
