    Is it possible for one side to spin at a different speed than the other?

    @Joe:

    Look closely. There is much more tape on the left side of the cassette, and less on the right side. This means that the the right side should spin faster than the left side.

    Ahh, the times we were walking around with walkmen... :)

    ^ oh, man I forgot. It has been a while I have played a casette. I remember rewinding the casette with a pencil. ;)

    @Joe:

    They were just in mine, but I haven't been playing one since 2002 or 2003, maybe... :)

    OK, here's also a video proof: watch cassette being inserted, then it starts playing. Notice drums rotate at different speed because on one of them there is more tape (tape is at the beginning). Only time both drums rotate at the exact same speed is when the cassette tape is right in the middle of playing! :)

    I have to admit, I sat staring at this for about 30 seconds hoping that the tape inside the cassette would slowly move from one side to the other. : )
