Because of the circular gradient. It looks awesome on circular objects because it immitates the way brushed aluminium reflects light ( the direction of the brushing creates an anisotropic reflection) however it makes almost no sense on a button of this shape, not to mention that the text is a lot less readable this way.
I think this effect could look great on other elements, just not on a button. As Matej writes, its doesn't make sense and the text is very hard to read.
Thing is that anisotropic lighting like the one you're depicting in the button with the radial gradient, only appears in objects that have been exposed to a circular wearing. Circular blade saws are a fine example, because while they are soft when they're new, thus reflecting light in a (kind of) uniform way, after using them a couple of times their surface starts to wear and they exhibit this lighting effect (sometimes called bidirectional reflectance distribution). Maybe that's why it looks weird: it doesn't looks natural. If it was circular it would be different, although the effect is also too heavy for the text.
Its cool that you can do this. But I'm not sure why you've elected to use the effect here. There is a time and place for it and I'm not sure this is it.
Additionally, the big difference with the "or login" is almost so jarring that I just can't comprehend this.

This button looks nice. But it looks likes it needs to slide, instead of pushed.

not to be a douche but : http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/06/stevejobswwdc2011liveblogkeynote0374.jpg It doesn't always have to be a 100% circular shape.
But I agree, the shape of the button + the applied effect is just a tad to much.

Desmond: It's not automatically good design just because Apple does it :) A lot of the things presented today looks pretty bad, UI/icon polish-wise.

Physically it doesn’t matter at all what shape it has. It needs to be flat. But other than that it can have the outline of a penis.
