@Aaron After turning the textures into grayscale in photoshop and selecting / deselecting what I need, I place it into Illustrator and live trace the textures.
It's kind of an unorthodox way of doing it, I know, but I feel that I've become proficient enough in Illustrator so everything is streamlined to that program mainly.

I love that line that makes up his chin. Great great work, and I'm with you on the whole Illustrator thing. Puts my mind at ease keeping everything in vector form though some things are done so much more easily in Photoshop...
