good stuff man. overall it looks very nice. i love the tabs on each post, thats very neat. not sure but i feel that the dark background makes the content that sits on it feel less important (especially the profile pic). also the ribbons that holds the titles on the left & right side bars should just run all the way (without fading to white), that gives it a more clearer hierarchy. other than that, i'd like to see you take on the profile page design/layout :)
really nice, the only thing that i dont like is the ribbon-like titles on the right, i dont think that suits the design very well, the rest its very nice.
oh and welcome to dribbble :)
It looks nice. But unfortunately, you miss the point. Facebook isn't about the pixels but the service it provides and your design, while nice, takes away from the service of Facebook. The great graphics are a distraction to the point of the site...Welcome to dribbble and keep up the good work.
Nice! It seems much bulkier than the current Facebook style, however. That's what puts me off the most - it's not as clear as it is now. Not so sure about the dark grey either - would much rather it be a darker shade of blue, but that's just me.
I don't think it would work for Facebook, but great job all the same :)
@Sam Mularczyk: When I started this design, I tried first with a darker blue instead of the grey. But it seemed that there wasn't enough contrast, that's why I tried with a dark grey.
I really like the layout solutions in this design but unfortunately it is let down by the very trendy graphics. If you applied the normal Facebook styling but kept the layout you would have something rather clever :)
Just to explain a little better, my purpose with this redesign wasn't to make something "better" than the actual design. I only made this for fun and practice. It's my personal idea of what facebook should like. But that's completely subjective, and I understand that facebook doesn't need this kind of design with all these “trendy” effects. They wouldn't have reached 600 million users with a bad interface. So yes the actual design is efficient.
But on the other side, see twitter interface with very simple gradients and shadow effects. I find it very pleasant to use. For facebook, I think it could be the same, with a little more efforts on the design they could give a better user experience without stressing much more their servers.
Facebook's interface is mainly meant to be simple right from the beginning. In my opinion they have done their best to make it 'look' good despite the heavy content of the website. We can't actually comment on the beauty of the website as they didn't actually go for an eye-candy design.
It can be treated the same way as we treat Google; one can't point a finger on the Google homepage and say, "Uff this sucks!" :D More, in my opinion, it's the apps that make facebook look ugly at times. If they got to use interface guidelines matching with facebook (the same way as apps do for iOS), I believe it will bring a very smooth experience.
But above all, great design sense and words Jonathan, welcome to Dribbble! Looking forward to see more from you. :)

About this first shot, it's a facebook redesign I finished some days ago. You can see the full preview here: http://jonaska.deviantart.com/art/Facebook-Redesign-201225016.

I'm sorry, but the utilitarian aesthetic of Facebook is a conscious decision and serves two key purposes:
1. It's outside trendy design fads like gradients, insets, drop shadows etc...
2. It's easier on their already-stressed servers.

Don't really like it
