Decided to look at using a side icon menu instead of a bottom nav. These screens are showing the feed and the feed with the menu open. I think using this menu will allow me to present more options in the app while keeping it clean and easy to navigate. All feedback would be appreciated on this as its a WIP and looking to get it in the best shape I can.
Large screen attached.

Very nice but i think you must educate your users for the icons and what they mean.
Also no menu at all at the bottom will be frustrating always to open the side menu in order to choose where to go. Maybe consider some basic functions to go on a bottom screen menu.
With an app that is image based I agree with going the side menu route, I want more room on my timelines, especially if it looks like this. Will it really be annoying enough to ruin the experience though? If you were to go with a bottom nav as well, I suppose it could dissapear as the user scrolls?
@Petros Dimitriadis (pd) great point thank you. I will think of way for the user to know what the icons mean rather than just through discovery. A couple of icons at the bottom like profile and feed could work really well and disappear on scroll maybe as @Samuel Boothby mentioned! Thanks for the ideas!
nice ... like it :)
