Made a little series of these for my typography class. You can see some others here: http://michaelshillingburg.tumblr.com/post/65170550685

How do you make these?
@Collin Hartigan It's basically just an extruded letterform that i rendered in cinema4D to do a full rotation in 60 frames. The swirls are just a droplet shape that moves around a circle 1-3 full rotations. They're really pretty easy to make.
@Michael Shillingburg Thanks! Cinema 4D. I always try and ask how people render moving animation gifs. Haven't decided on a program to use yet. Any use of the mac-based ones?
@Collin Hartigan I'm using C4D on a mac and it's great. It's way more intuitive than any other 3D software i've used. And as the name implies it makes the most sense for cinematics. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to do this kind of thing.
@Michael Shillingburg thanks for the insight. So I've heard. Hear of any good alternative thats in the app store? (have gift card, trying to save money).
@Collin Hartigan I wouldn't be the one to ask, sadly. I've only got experience with cinema.
@Michael Shillingburg Great work regardless. I'll try to reach your level one day
