Is there a reason you use brushes for these instead of changing stroke style?
You could do the same thing using rounded corner effect + circled/arrow stroke arrow head. That will also support angled and curved lines.

Great!! Can I ask, how did you "paint" the brush squarely along the guides? I know you can hold shift to brush at 45deg angles, but how do you bend the line? Thanks :)
