Latch Content Creation Page

Picture and note leaving tool for upcoming app some fellow Tufts Students and I are building. This is the content creation page of the app where users can take pictures, leave, text or a combination of the two. The Camera view is square because I wanted to give equal weight to text as well as photos, such that both halves are the same dimensions. One problem I ran into is that when you open the page, the camera is running and the users sees content through the lens - which urges them to take a picture. I have not found an equivalent for text and I do not believe closing the camera and adding a button to open it is a good decision either because it adds another interaction which would make content creation another step more complex, which I do not want to do.
