Designing + sharing one spread a day from something I’m reading, allowing myself to spend more time with the text and perhaps even share some resources. This will be a daily practice.

This excerpt comes from James Baldwin's book of essays, The Fire Next Time (1963), specifically, "Down at the Cross: Letter from a Region in My Mind," which can also be read online on The New Yorker. It deals with identity and race from all angles, though particularly his perspective as a Black, male, raised Christian, descendant of slaves in America. Among many learnings, I was reminded of the elusiveness of the ideals of equality and freedom, and how we can't begin to fix the world outside of us until we address all that’s within us.
