Improving Outreach Methods For Homeless Youth

PROJECT TITLE:
Improving Outreach Methods For Homeless Youth

PROBLEM STATEMENT:
Current communication methods of directing homeless youth to valuable resources can be more empathetic and more user friendly with thoughtful design solutions.

AUDIENCE:
Young adults ages 18-24 in Cincinnati facing problems with homelessness and/or lack of basic needs.

SOLUTION DESCRIPTION:
For my solution, I redesigned the logo used for Lighthouse Youth Services so that it could be applied to their specific facility, The Sheakley Center For Youth, which is a shelter that caters directly to my audience’s needs.
My solution also consists of applying this logo with other design elements I have developed to stickers, care packages, and water bottles. These deliverables will be handed out to homeless youth by The Street Outreach Team, staff members at The Sheakley Center For Youth who physically go out into the streets of downtown Cincinnati to look for homeless young adults who would be eligible to come into the facility. I have also designed t-shirts for these staff members to wear with these elements.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE:
To improve awareness of The Sheakley Center For Youth and the services they offer to my demographic as well as provide a sense of comfort that is lacking in their current print materials.
