Something I've been working on recently.
Didn't really want to add more details on the map since it really looked visually cluttered so I kept it simple. Pretty happy with the final result especially since its 114px size looks gorgeous on the Retina display!
The wooden background comes from the talented Matthew Skiles make sure to visit his page and say hi! :)
I like the individual parts of the icon, but I think they don't always play together nicely:
1. Why's there a 'color-burned' shadow on upper border of the map?
2. If the map is folded, the streets shown should be folded, too.
3. Same goes for the waves I think. I'd try to transform them slightly, so that it looks as if they're floating over the map flat over the map.
@Philipp -There's a slight shadow on the 512px version that didn't scale that well here for the dribbble shot.
-I see what you mean about the streets! Actually didn't look that great in the final version :/
-Wanted to keep the waves simple ;)
Thanks a lot for taking the time to post your feedback Philipp, hope you still like it even though my icon is not a photo-realistic illustration ;)
@Julien It's not about photo-realism. Actually I like your style a lot, it's just the perspective that looked a bit odd to me. Keep up the good work ;)

This is looking really great! Maybe the pulsation waves should have outward-fading gradients?
Anyways, awesome stuff!
