@Jacob - I hadn't even considered this for a Tumblr theme. Originally I was thinking I could release this through WooThemes or Obox or another theme company. Hm...
I'm a layout person, so I always look at grids and alignment. Might I suggest left-aligning the menu description text in the yellow ribbon with the menu elements? i.e. left-align "Articles, reviews, and posts galore" with "Home".
Great work :) It seems to echo the HappyCog aesthetic, which is becoming more prevalent these days among competent designers.
@Jeff: Thanks dude, yeah I decided to try and run with my old design that was just collecting dust in the pile. The nav bar was actually a light blue before but I made a split second decision to colour it yellow instead.
@Stewart: Thanks for the suggestion Stewart - I was thinking of aligning it, but my idea was to slightly offset the text overlays for the each menu item to the left (or maybe even center them around their main nav counterparts). In either case I'll play around with it and see how it looks :)
Ya, I am lovin' this. so clean. The colors pop. It's a win all around in my book.
I especially enjoy the pattern at the top edge of the layout, kind of paper-esque. Have you thought about mimicking the corners used in the 'United Serif Extended' text instead of the partial circles?
@Matthew: Thanks man. I had not considered using angles but now you've interrupted my economics essay and I am in the process of firing up Photoshop to see the possibilities :) Cheers!

Might alter the typography a bit in the nav, but so far this is my working concept of a potential theme release at some point.
Any takers?
***I just realized I forgot to mention the slight pixel imperfection on the left there, it's a css mistake on my part :)**

Looks beautiful, I'm sure it'd be a hit if you released it into the real world!

@Liam - Thanks, much appreciated! I am not much of a wordpress wizz, I'd like to have someone else develop and release this :)
@Thomas - Thanks Thomas, the paper edge was the first thing I designed as my inspiration for the whole look.

@Trent - Also, comments like those make me afraid to finish the rest of the design, lest I ruin it :)

Being from Pittsburgh, maybe I'm just a sucker for black and gold, but I love this with every fiber of my being.
